For the 3rd year in a row my family put together a couple of bags of food and household goods for a local food pantry.
While I wish they were more responsive to contacts outside their church members, this is a local church run pantry so they don’t get the exposure larger pantries get.
We dropped the food off last night.
Today we went out for lunch at a family owned diner. As we were waiting for our food to come out I spotted someone in a uniform and rig starting to sit down. My sister saw me looking and glanced over too. Two local police officers were sitting down to grab a meal. Shay got the server’s attention and waved him over. I told him to bring me their check.
I did not intend for them to know who had paid their check, but the server told them when he walked past. We didn’t want their thanks, or any recognition. In today’s world of anti-cop sentiment, I wanted to give them something positive. [Merry Christmas Gentlemen, thank you for your service.]
My gift to them, and to myself. It is better to give than to receive. In a year when so many are hurting, I have been blessed. God has seen fit to take care of me and my family. The least I can do is pass along some of those blessings.
Merry Christmas to all.
And May God bless you.
