I tried to tell some of my friends on FB that there was another side to the story. They kept insisting that the kids were in the wrong. 😦

The news media wonders why the “fake news” label keeps getting thrown at them. Maybe it’s because in the wake of the Covington Catholic High School smear, some are clutching to their precious narrative as closely as Gollum held the One Ring.
It’s been reasonably shown that the kids at the Lincoln Memorial were not the instigators of the strangeness and slurs that happened last Friday. Since one of the groups on hand happened to livestream HOURS of this incident, it’s pretty clear that the high school students were confused by what was going on, but they weren’t the ones getting in other people’s faces. The adults in this situation failed. Nathan Phillips told one story as the video showed another.

There is a chance that the guy who pushed for the confrontation is also doing stolen valor (which would not be surprising) given a number of inaccuracies in his statements. I can’t find the tweet any more but apparently he also has a history of making confrontations, having them happen when there is no reason for one, and milking it for attention.

Apparently he’s an activist who’s used the ‘was racially harassed’ claim before.

Color me surprised. 😉 I have been aware of bigotry against whites from N.A. since the 90’s when I was part of a local N.A. group.

I’m sure the Onion has problems trying to come up with outrageous fakes theses days too, and anything they come up with ends up being rather uncomfortably too close to the truth for parody or satire…
