Stop me if you’ve heard this one: a priest, a rabbi, and a pastor walk into an abortion clinic. Whoops, a priest wasn’t in this story. But some ministers and a rabbi were at an abortion clinic. And this is not a joke, because sadly, it’s true. Yes, clergy were on hand at the opening…
Shamefully, though, fourteen Catholic senators also voted against this bill, as an enraged priest pointed out. And if you think they were all Democrats, think again. Two of these Catholic senators — Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine — openly voted against life, as well as the tenets of their church. “If they had voted as their faith (and their common humanity would dictate) this cruel and horrible practice would have been outlawed,” wrote Fr. Dwight Longenecker. He continued:
What kind of Catholic Church are we if their pastors and bishops do not stand up publicly and rebuke these fourteen politicians?
What kind of Catholic Church? Moreover, what kind of Christian church of any stripe thinks it’s appropriate to bless an abortion clinic?
Indeed, what kind of church would, could sanction this?
you know… Nancy Pelosi is Catholic and yet is a very ardent supporter of abortion.
As one who was adopted, it is beyond my soul the conscious choice made to kill an unborn child….not a mass of tissue mind you…but rather a beating heart, pain feeling individual—
This business about it being a woman’s right because it’s a woman’s body—well…there is not only one involved when there is a pregnancy, there are two and actually three if you count the male’s role in all of this—and thus she makes the selfish decision not for herself alone—but rather she makes the decision for another as well—she casts a vote of death for another soul while disregarding the thought of the other who aided her in this condition.
If you don’t want to ever get pregnant…plain and simple, don’t have sex.
That’s the bottom line on that. Yet the conscious choice to have sex could very well lead to a pregnancy—plain and simple. So maybe if more consideration was taken into the choice of having sex as it was with the thought that goes into say, buying a pair of shoes, then maybe thinking twice would take place and that moment of passion would not lead to the difficult decision of literally life or death.
Oh forgive me my friend—but this is a topic I get so riled up over—as it boils down to a topic of selfishness vs selflessness…

AMEN, sister! Pregnancy and STD can kill you. Abortions can kill the mother aw well as the child. Abstinence has never killed anyone.
“So maybe if more consideration was taken into the choice of having sex as it was with the thought that goes into say, buying a pair of shoes…”
And there is the deep shame of living in a disposable economy. That baby has less value then those shoes, or that brand new smart phone.
No apologies needed. 🙂 I tend to see it as selfish too. My wants, my desires, when I want it, how I want it; with no regard for the consequences.

And you are right on point- we live in a disposable society that puts more worth on things than human life—

It just *feels* that way when you’re a teen.

Exactly. Unless you are a hedonist (and a lot more people are than would claim it) the very act of sex is an act of procreation. You have to work to defeat it. If you’re a rationalist or a creationist, sex has a purpose, and that is to make a baby. Period.
Mind you, it *is* an enjoyable act. It can be *VERY* much so. But that is not its purpose.

But it is, as you allude, an act of conscience — as in there are possible reactions— a gamble
